It is staggering to think that poor mental health is costing UK businesses an estimated £56 billion a year. The sooner organisations begin to address this mental health crisis the better for all concerned. With the right targeted interventions and tailored support, sickness days reduce, staff become more motivated and profits rise. Although we know that reacting to this may not be as easy as it sounds.

At the helm of tackling the mental health pandemic in our organisations are our steadfast HR departments. Many continue to feel the fallout from over two years of the pandemic. To-Do lists are still endless. Not only have HR been instrumental in co-ordinating a shift to hybrid working patterns but early on in the pandemic they were laying off and furloughing staff and more recently re-recruiting, all the while being tasked with maintaining unity between leaders and workers. It is no wonder we are hearing that HR staff are finding it increasingly difficult to provide support to ‘burnout’ employees as they themselves are so overwhelmed. With an unprecedented number of employees experiencing mental health conditions, HR are finding it hard to know where to begin.

In response to increased levels of mental health distress within organisations we have created The Working Mindset Model. We aim to relieve some of the pressure placed on our HR functions by delivering a comprehensive and clinically informed, holistic solution to improve the wellbeing of employees.

  • Initially, we offer Strategy Diagnosis where we use our research methods and analysis to understand the most pressing wellbeing challenges in an organisation. Your wellbeing audit gives us a baseline to identify drivers and risks to wellbeing.
  • Getting staff to open up about and explore how they are feeling can be difficult territory. During our Employee Consultation we use our skills and experience to facilitate psychologically safe conversations. These sessions enable your staff to feedback key factors influencing their wellbeing in your workplace which further informs gaps in wellbeing provision.
  • We follow this by tailoring our Wellbeing Webinars to meet the specific needs of your business. For instance, if we identify that staff are struggling to adjust to hybrid working then we will provide a bespoke webinar addressing this topic. Similarly, if some collaborative work needs to be done around understanding menopause in the workplace, then our webinar on this will help.
  • As well as HR being responsible for creating a healthy workplace it is your line managers who are key when it comes to spotting the signs of poor mental health. An essential part of the Working Mindset Method is providing Line Manager Mental Health Training to equip managers with appropriate skills to support the wellbeing of your employees.
  • Not only do we think it is crucial to train managers in mental health but generally improving knowledge and understanding across staff is the next step to a mentally well workforce. We can help businesses achieve this through our Working Mindset Champions Training. Once trained these members of staff are skilled to change workplace culture and tackle the stigma that surrounds mental health.
  • For any wellbeing programme to be successful we know it is important to support those who are leant on for support, often our HR teams and managers. For these groups we run Clinical Support Workshops where your staff are offered a reflective space to explore employee wellbeing challenges and mutual peer support.
  • Finally, we provide a comprehensive Evaluation which highlights your employee engagement with the Working Mindset Model. The report also outlines any further wellbeing needs that could be addressed.

At Working Mindset, we know that when it comes to wellbeing and mental health there is no one size fits all, so we offer different packages of support according to the size and needs of an organisation. We deliver clinical excellence that guarantees to improve the wellbeing, energy, and performance of your employees.
